What are the types of hydraulic filters?

Low-pressure filters

Low-pressure filters are located by the tank and the pump. Pressure rates reach 350 psi. The main function of this filter type is to block contaminants from getting to the pump. 

Medium-pressure filters

Medium-pressure filters are found in fluid return lines and reach a pressure rating of 90 to 2,000 psi. These filters work to gather dirt that comes from the system when it is running. 

High-pressure filters

High-pressure filters reside by the pump and essential parts of the system like cylinders, valves, and motors. Working to prevent failures of these components, pressure rates range anywhere from 1,885 psi to 6,500 psi.

In-tank filters

In-tank filters are designed to save space and are found by the reservoir. Their pressure rates are low. The purpose of this filter type is to ensure the tank stays free from contaminants that occur while the system is running. 

Strainers

Wire mesh strainers are usually found in the tank. They are attached to the pump intake penetration. This component filters out particles that are usually solid and visible from the hydraulic fluid.  

Breathers filters

Located by the reservoir, the main function of breathers is to prevent airborne contamination as the air moves into and out of the tank.
